EDINBURG, TX — The Alan Stalcup Scholarship continues its mission of investing in students who are committed to making a difference in their communities. The program’s newest recipient, Layla Sierra, is a senior at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education with ESL certification (EC–6) and is on track to graduate in Fall 2026.

For Layla, becoming an educator isn’t just a career goal — it’s a calling.

With the support of the Alan Stalcup Scholarship, she can focus fully on developing the knowledge, classroom skills, and leadership qualities needed to serve future students across Texas without the added pressure of financial strain.

“This award truly means so much to me,” Layla shared. “Knowing that others believe in my potential motivates me to continue working hard and making a positive impact in the classroom. I’m incredibly grateful for the support.”

The Alan Stalcup Scholarship was created to remove barriers for hardworking students and open doors to opportunity through education. Each recipient represents the next generation of leaders, educators, and professionals who will strengthen their communities for years to come.

Supporting students like Layla reflects a broader commitment to investing in people first — ensuring that talent and determination, not circumstance, determine what’s possible.

As Layla prepares to complete her senior year and step into the classroom, her journey is a reminder of the powerful ripple effect education can have: one student, one degree, and countless lives impacted along the way.

Applications for the Alan Stalcup Scholarship remain open to students pursuing higher education.
